A rare and unique Mameluke hilted Damascus blade Kilij with gold decoration. The deeply curved 30 inch blade with distinct Damascus pattern, 9 inch yelman and simple but elegant gold damascene decoration. Steel cross guard of Mameluke form. Ivory grip scales and Mameluke pommel. Original steel scabbard with two carrying rings. Condition of blade is fine with all gold decoration intact, no pitting or chips. The steel hilt is patinated. Ivory grips are cracked with some losses but displayable as is. Steel scabbard is patinated but free of the usual dents. A showy 19th Century Mameluke Kilij either made for an Englishman with Ottoman taste or an Ottoman Cavalry Officer in the English style. From a decades old private collection. Est:$750-1250
